Henry Kiersey is a Chicago native who moved to Arizona when he joined the LaunchPM team in 2024. He’s also an Arizona State University alum with a Bachelor of Science in Economics. Prior to joining LaunchPM, Henry worked in a variety of industries including construction, real estate and interior design, which prepared him well for his transition into project management. He was searching for an opportunity to apply the skills he gained from his previous experience. When he got the offer to work as a project coordinator for LaunchPM, he happily accepted and packed his bags for Phoenix.
We recently sat down with Henry to learn what he likes about working in construction project management. Check out what he has to say:
What does a typical day look like for a project coordinator at LaunchPM?
A typical day in the office begins with the project coordinators getting in around eight in the morning. We like to connect for a bit over coffee and prepare for our day. After that, the day is packed full of meetings. At any given time at the office, one or more of us is in a meeting or on a call of some sort. As a project coordinator, our job is to keep all parties involved in a project informed and to make sure that all the parts are moving forward at the right pace. That involves a lot of communication every day with a wide variety of people.
However, there are some days I don’t even step foot in the office. These days are my favorite – where I spend it on construction sites getting to see these remarkable projects come to life step-by-step. It’s always exciting to see something in real life instead of on a screen and I enjoy interacting with the talented people who are working on the job sites. I love the variety of projects I get to see go from concept to completion and the different people we work with throughout that process. Every project is different and comes with its unique set of challenges to overcome, which is also exciting.
What is your favorite part about working at LaunchPM?
My favorite part is the busy, fast pace and diversity. I love the different tasks and projects I get to work on and that no two days are alike. I always knew I wasn’t meant to sit at a desk on a computer all day and working at LaunchPM gives me the consistent change of scenery that I thrive on. Plus, I get to work with an amazing team in a beautiful office.
How has your previous experience prepared you for your role at LaunchPM and what have you learned since starting?
My previous experience in different industries includes interior design, architecture, construction and real estate. I have done just about everything I do now as a project coordinator. The difference is that now I am involved in all the areas that bring a project together. I work with everyone from general contractors to designers on each project.
One of the biggest things I’ve had to learn was how I can improve on my existing communication skills. Communication is 99% of what we do, so it’s forced me to hone in on how I get my message across clearly and concisely. Along those same lines, I’ve also learned the importance of staying organized and the value of collaborating with others throughout a project. Since I am not the only person referring to the files and notes on a project, I have to be sure I organize them in a way that is easy for someone else to understand too.
What do you like to do when you are off the clock?
Off the clock, I love to golf. Phoenix is basically a golfer’s paradise, so I was excited for the chance to move here and experience all it has to offer for myself. When it’s too hot to golf, you can find me inside working out or hanging out at home playing video games.
